- 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed

- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the Glaze (Optional):
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Crumb Topping
- In a small bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
- Stir in melted butter until the mixture is crumbly. Set aside.
Step 2: Preheat Oven & Prepare Muffin Pan
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a 12-cup muffin pan with liners or grease with non-stick spray.
Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Set aside.
Step 4: Prepare Wet Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
Step 5: Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk.
- Mix until just combined (do not overmix).
- Gently fold in diced apples.
Step 6: Fill Muffin Cups & Add Crumb Topping
- Spoon batter evenly into muffin cups, filling about 3/4 full.
- Sprinkle crumb topping generously over each muffin.
Step 7: Bake the Muffins
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let muffins cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 8: Prepare the Glaze (Optional)
- In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Drizzle over cooled muffins.
