Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 1 lb beef (sirloin, flank steak, or ground beef), thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
For the Sauce:
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp cornstarch (optional for thickening)
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, black pepper, red pepper flakes, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Set aside.
- Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté the Vegetables: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed. Sauté the garlic, onions, and bell peppers for 3-4 minutes until they are slightly tender but still crisp.
- Combine Everything: Return the cooked beef to the pan and pour in the sauce. Stir well to coat everything evenly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Assemble the Bowl: Divide the cooked rice among serving bowls. Top with the beef and pepper mixture.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Enjoy immediately!
Notes
- Slice beef thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
- Marinate the beef in the sauce for 10 minutes before cooking for extra flavor.
- Don’t overcook the peppers – they should still have some crunch.
- Use a hot pan to achieve a nice sear on the beef.
- Make extra sauce if you prefer a saucier dish.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days and reheat with a splash of water for best results.
