Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound mushrooms (white button, cremini, or baby bella), cleaned and halved
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese, grated (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Mushrooms:

    • Wipe mushrooms clean with a damp cloth (avoid rinsing to prevent sogginess).
    • Trim stems if necessary and cut larger mushrooms in half.
  • Sauté the Mushrooms:

    • Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Add mushrooms in a single layer and let them sear for 3-4 minutes without stirring.
    • Stir and continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes, allowing excess moisture to evaporate.
  • Add Garlic and Seasoning:

    • Reduce heat to medium-low, stir in garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
    • Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, stirring frequently.
  • Enhance the Flavor:

    • Stir in Worcestershire sauce (if using) and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
    • Sprinkle with fresh parsley and thyme, then toss to combine.
    • Remove from heat and optionally garnish with Parmesan cheese.
  • Serve and Enjoy:

    • Transfer to a serving dish and serve warm.
    • Perfect as a side for steak, grilled chicken, pasta, or toast.

Notes

  • Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even browning.
  • Use fresh herbs for a more vibrant flavor.
  • Deglaze the pan with white wine for added depth.
  • Pair with crusty bread for a delicious appetizer.
  • Reheat in a skillet over medium heat to maintain texture.
