- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
For the Glaze (Optional but Recommended):
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup or milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Step 1: Brown the Butter
- In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of butter over medium heat.
- Stir continuously until it turns a deep golden brown color and develops a nutty aroma (about 5 minutes).
- Remove from heat immediately and let it cool slightly.
Step 2: Prepare the Apples
- In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
- Add diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Cook for 3-5 minutes until the apples soften and caramelize.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
Step 3: Make the Blondie Batter
- In a large bowl, whisk together browned butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the caramelized apples.
Step 4: Bake the Blondies
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Spread the batter evenly in the pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Let them cool completely before slicing.
Step 5: Prepare the Glaze (Optional)
- In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.
- Drizzle over cooled blondies before serving.
Notes
✅ Use the right apples – Tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp provide the best flavor balance.
✅ Don’t overmix the batter – Stir until just combined to keep them soft and chewy.
✅ Let the brown butter cool slightly – This prevents scrambling the eggs when mixing.
✅ Line your baking pan with parchment paper – This makes it easier to remove the blondies after baking.
✅ Add a pinch of sea salt – Enhances the sweetness and adds a gourmet touch.
