- 12 oz penne pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Fresh basil leaves, torn (for garnish)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
Instructions
- Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant but not browned.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes and sugar. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the cooked penne pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat evenly.
- Remove from heat and garnish with torn basil leaves.
- Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese on top.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
- Fresh basil can be substituted with dried basil if necessary.
