  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 loaf of French bread, sliced
  • 2 cups Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
  3. Stir in the beef broth, white wine, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. In a baking dish, layer half of the bread slices, followed by half of the onion mixture, and half of the Gruyère cheese.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, onion mixture, and cheese.
  6. Top with Parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
