Ingredients
-
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
-
4 garlic cloves, minced or finely grated
-
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
-
¾ cup whole milk (or heavy cream for a richer version)
-
¼ teaspoon salt
-
¼ teaspoon black pepper
-
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
-
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
-
Melt Butter: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
-
Sauté Garlic: Add minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
-
Make Roux: Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, forming a paste.
-
Add Milk: Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
-
Thicken Sauce: Continue cooking for 3–5 minutes, stirring often, until thickened.
-
Season & Finish: Stir in salt, pepper, Parmesan (if using), and parsley. Remove from heat and serve warm.
Notes
-
Use fresh garlic for the best flavor; garlic powder can work in a pinch.
-
For extra richness, swap milk with heavy cream or half-and-half.
-
Add heat with a pinch of red pepper flakes.
-
Make it gluten-free by substituting flour with cornstarch (use 1 teaspoon mixed with cold milk).
-
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days; reheat gently with a splash of milk.
-
Use as a pizza base, dip, or drizzle over veggies, pasta, or breadsticks.
