Ingredients
For the Lo Mein:
- 8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti as a substitute)
- 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 1/2 cup bell peppers, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
For the Lo Mein Sauce:
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for spice)
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
- Cook the noodles according to the package instructions, drain, and set aside.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the lo mein sauce ingredients and set aside.
- In another bowl, toss the sliced beef with cornstarch and soy sauce, coating evenly. Let it marinate for 10 minutes.
Step 2: Cook the Beef
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, until browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Step 3: Stir-Fry the Vegetables
- In the same pan, add broccoli, carrots, and bell peppers.
- Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender.
- Add garlic and ginger and stir-fry for another 30 seconds.
Step 4: Combine Everything
- Return the cooked beef to the pan.
- Add the cooked noodles and pour in the lo mein sauce.
- Toss everything together and stir-fry for 2 more minutes to combine flavors.
- Remove from heat and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
