For the Stir-Fry Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tablespoons of water

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Sauce

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and black pepper.
  2. Stir in the cornstarch slurry to help thicken the sauce.
  3. Set aside.

Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef, breaking it apart, and cook for 4-5 minutes until browned.
  3. Drain excess fat if needed, then push the beef to one side of the pan.

Step 3: Stir-Fry the Vegetables

  1. Add sesame oil to the pan, then sauté garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes for 30 seconds.
  2. Add broccoli and bell peppers, stirring frequently, and cook for 3-4 minutes until crisp-tender.

Step 4: Combine and Simmer

  1. Pour the prepared stir-fry sauce over the beef and vegetables.
  2. Stir well to combine and cook for 2 more minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
