For the Stir-Fry:
- 1 lb ground beef (85% lean recommended)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 1 head broccoli, cut into florets (about 3 cups)
- 1/2 red bell pepper, sliced (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
For the Stir-Fry Sauce:
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tablespoons of water
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Sauce
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and black pepper.
- Stir in the cornstarch slurry to help thicken the sauce.
- Set aside.
Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add ground beef, breaking it apart, and cook for 4-5 minutes until browned.
- Drain excess fat if needed, then push the beef to one side of the pan.
Step 3: Stir-Fry the Vegetables
- Add sesame oil to the pan, then sauté garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes for 30 seconds.
- Add broccoli and bell peppers, stirring frequently, and cook for 3-4 minutes until crisp-tender.
Step 4: Combine and Simmer
- Pour the prepared stir-fry sauce over the beef and vegetables.
- Stir well to combine and cook for 2 more minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
- Remove from heat and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
Step 5: Serve & Enjoy
- Serve hot over steamed rice, brown rice, cauliflower rice, or noodles.
